Sola Khamba is the monument contains 16 pillars to support its roof, the Sola Khamba in Ajmer is the self-constructed tomb of Shaikh Ala-al-Din. Sola Khamba is situated outside the Chisti Dargah. This beautiful monument has been made with white marble and has curves with four slender minarets. The unique attribute of the structural design of the place leads to the flat roof of the structure. It is one of the oldest mosques in India today. The presence of this mosque along with Chisti Dargah makes Ajmer a very popular city. It is one of the most popular places to be visited by tourists.

Ajmer is also known for Adhai-Din Ka-Jhonpra, is a suitable example of early Indo-Islamic architecture. The mosque is supposed to have been constructed in two and a half days, thus named Adhai-Din Jhonpra has been named. Another conviction is that its name is credited to a two and a half day fair held nearby each year. The structure of Adhai-Din Ka-Jhonpra is supported by 124 pillars and has 10 domes. The wonderful pillars, vaulted screens and ruined minarets make the tomb one of the most frequently visited places in Rajasthan.

Ajmer is venerated as a holy place for both Hindus and Muslims. The magnificent building is made with white marble with a long and narrow courtyard for the faithful to pray in, richly embellished with ornate calligraphic inscriptions, delicate carvings and detailed trelliswork. The best time to visit the Dargah is during the annual Urs of Moinuddin Chisti Moinuddin Chisti the main festival of Ajmer which is celebrated every year in the month of May. Taragarh Fort is also known as ‘Star Fort’. The main gateway of the fort has some meticulous carvings of elephants. The Taragarh Fort has some huge water reservoirs carved out of solid rocks. These reservoirs were built to store water and supply it to the residents at the time of crisis. The Palace has lost most of its charm as the shine of its spectacular murals and stained glass windows have completely faded away. The fort also has Miran Saheb ki Dargah, a former governor of the fort who dedicated his life in an encounter. It is also one of the most popular places to be visited in Ajmer by tourists every year.

How to Reach?

By Car

One of the best ways to reach Ajmer is by road because it has a lot of fun. The Delhi-Ajmer National Highway offers a smooth ride with plenty of restaurants and Dhabas on the way. The road leading to Ajmer is well-connected by National Highways 8. As the distance between New Delhi to Ajmer is about 391 km by Road which is approximately less than 6 hour drive. The jaipur to ajmer is only 139 km which takes 2 hours to reach ajmer as its is a eight lane highway.

By Train

Ajmer is well serviced by a number of regular trains that connect to the important cities like superfast, express and mail trains to Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Jodhpur. The air-conditioned superfast Shatabdi Express connects Ajmer to Delhi most conveniently. After reaching the station you can hire a pre-paid taxi to reach up to the city safely.

By Air

Ajmer does not have any airport of its own so the nearest airport is at Jaipur which is about 130 km away from the city. After reaching the airport you can hire a pre-paid taxi to reach up to the station safely and comfortably.
